Dr. Alan Koterba has been with the practice for six years, he completed residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Fellowship training in Allergy and Immunology at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Koterba is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Allergy and Immunology. He received his medical degree from the University of Toledo College of Medicine in Toledo, Ohio and also a doctoral degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Texas Health Science at San Antonio.
While at Northwestern he co-authored and presented research on immunodeficiency in adults with chronic sinusitis. In addition he received an award for teaching excellence as a Fellow at Northwestern and was the winner of the annual research award for the 2010 Illinois Society of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. He is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology and the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology.
Dr. Elena Perez, a native of Palm Beach County, graduated from the University of Florida College of Medicine with a combined MD/PhD degree in 1998. She completed her Residency in Pediatrics in 2001, and Fellowship in Allergy/Immunology in 2004, at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Perez is Board Certified in Pediatrics and Allergy/Immunology. She has remained actively involved in several professional societies including the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, and the Clinical Immunology Society as well as the Immunodeficiency Foundation. Her clinical expertise is in primary immunodeficiency disorders and pediatric allergy including asthma, eczema, and food and environmental allergies.
She has been a member of the Primary Immunodeficiency Committee of the AAAAI for 10 years and has also served as its chairperson. She is currently serving as the Vice Chair of the Basic and Clinical Immunology interest section of the AAAAI, and as a Councilor of the Clinical Immunology Society. Dr. Perez moved back to the west coast of Florida in 2009 as Associate Professor at University of South Florida/All Children’s Hospital, and then in 2012 was recruited to the University of Miami as Chief of Pediatric Allergy/Immunology and director of the Jeffrey Modell Center for Primary Immunodeficiencies. She was actively involved in the addition of newborn screening for Severe Combined Immunodeficiency to the newborn screening panel in Florida, which started in October 2012. She has published many papers in the field of Allergy/Immunology with an emphasis in primary immunodeficiencies.
